Python 2.3

Python is the glue that makes Scorpion extremely flexible.

To enjoy the benefits of Python it can be recommended to install some of the following:

Python Home - www.python.org - The fastest growing and best Open-Source scripting language

  1. Python 2.3 is used for Scorpion 3 and or lower

    • When installing Scorpion all necessary python for basic operation is installed
    • Installing Python 2.3 will add all the modules in the standard python with complete documentation
    • Included is also the interactive development tool IDLE

Mark Hammond's Python Extensions for Win32

  1. Scorpion or lower - compatibility
    • Win32all-163.exe - 4.1 MByte
      • Win32all-163 is to go with Python 2.3
      • With the extensions it is possible to drive Excel, Word and Access from Scorpion
      • The development tool PythonWin is included
      • The extensions requires a valid Python installation

Python for .Net

  • Python for .NET is a near-seamless integration of the Python runtime with the .NET Common Language Runtime (CLR). It lets you script and build applications in Python, using CLR services and components written in any language that targets the CLR (C#, Managed C++, VB.NET, etc.).

  • .Net is supported from Scorpion Vision Software 4.2

  • Python for .Net requires .Net Framework 1.1 - download

  • .NET Framework 1.1 SDK - 106 MByte is available from Microsoft to download free of charge

  • Python for .Net requires a full Python installation

Python Modules

  1. pySerial 2.2 - 30 kByte  is used for both python 2.3 and 2.4
    • Can be used to access any serial port from Scorpion
    • Ideal for stepper motor control / lcd display or serial io
    • The module requires a valid Python Installation
    • pySerial is open source and available on Source Forge - pySerial and on the Scorpion CD
