Installation

Use the setup program Setup AnOpcClientX to install.

If you already have installed the Siemens OPCDAAutomation (OPC Scout is installed on your computer) you can
settle for the typical installation type.  If not, or in doubt, select the custom installation.

  • The Application Files component is a compiled VisualBasic test container for AnOpcClientX
  • The Help and Tutorial Files component is a PDF user manual
  • The Example Files component is the VisualBasic project for the Application Files
  • The opc support component is the setup for Siemens OPC Scout, which will install the Siemens OPCDAAutomation as well.
  • The ActiveX component is the ActiveX: AnOpcClientX.ocx and a Python support module.

After installation you may view a read me file with this information:

AnOpcClientX is an ActiveX.  This setup program has installed the ActiveX in the installation directory, not the system32 directory.

AnOpcClientX requires that the OPCSiemensDAAutomation interface to be installed before it will work.

If you have installed the Siemens OPC Scout on the target machine this installation should work fine.

If you have not you should perform the following steps:

  • Install AnOpcClientX with the custom install

  • This will install a copy of the OPC Scout SETUP software in the OPC directory on the installation path

  • Complete the setup by running OPC/Disk1/SETUP.EXE

For Python support in Scorpion Vision Software make sure that the supplied anopcclientx.py file is in the Python path or in the Python directory of your Scorpion profile.

The supplied documentation td-2004-0040-a AnOPCClientX.pdf will give you examples on how to use AnOpcClientX witn VB and Scorpion.  Also check out the supplied VB test program/project.

If you need a general OPC server the Tordivel AS AnOpcServerX program implements an OPC server with general RW register access for Boolean, Long, Single, Double and String datatypes.

After installation you will have this directory structure:

In order to install the Siemens OPCDAAutomation you must open the OPC folder and runt the SETUP.EXE from the DISK1 folder.

When this last installation setup is performed you can start accessing OPC servers from Scorpion.
