EdgeFinder - 42

EdgeFinder is a simple edge tool finding one or more edge lines with a trace comb. The comb finds a number of edge points to increase the robustness. The edge points are grouped, thus noise is filtered. Light and dark bands are identified if more than one edge is found. In this case also statistics for the lines are returned.

Setup

Reference - Reference system selection

Orientation - the tool's region of interest. Orientation of the trace comb’s base line. Choose either start point or center point for the base line.

  • Start point | Center point
  • X - x
  • Y - y
  • Width - width of base line
  • Angle - angle of trace comb

Trace lines

  • Count - number of trace lines
  • Start point - position of starting point on traceline given in reference coordinates
  • End point - position of end point on traceline given in reference coordinates
    • Inverted the sign of start and stop point will change the direction of the trace comb
  • Trace step - normally 1 - given in pixels
  • Line width - 0 - traceline is not averaged - a higher value will average N pixels perpendicular to the tracecomb

Search criteria

  • Threshold - the threshold or sensitivity of the edge detector - a lower value increases the sensitivity

Advanced

Search parameters

  • Search mode - Peak | Threshold
  • Smallest edge separation - Edge grouping
  • Smallest edge strength (%)

Filter

  • Smooth base - 3 is normally a good value
  • Smooth count - 1 default - given i pixels
    • The smoothing increasing with higher values
  • Differentiation - More information - see Normalisation
    • 0 - give threshold
    • 1 - 1. order differentiation - the derivative - default normally used
    • 2 - 2. order differentiation
