Setup

Reference - Reference system selection

Search area - the tool's region of interest

Use whole picture - overrides polygon settings

Polygon definition file - The areas to be searched are initially read from a text file (see the StrVec format). The name of that file is also stored, for possible future reload. The path information, however, is stored directly in the system, without need for the external file. You can browse for or manually edit the filename

  • Load - load areas search from file
  • Save - save area search to file
  • Always read file at startup (overwrite SPB) - With this selection, the file is always loaded at startup.
    • Note: a file will not contain names of dynamic polygons (below), but will contain the live contents of the linked polygon at the time the file is saved.

Polygons

  • Vector - list of numbered polygons
  • Content - the points of the selected polygon, or the name of an external polygon (a result from another tool). The polygon can be either a StrVec representation, or it can be a Python tuple.
  • New - add polygon
  • Delete - remove selected polygon
  • Paste new - creates a new polygon, pastes the polygon from the clipboard and presses apply  - this is the quickest way to create many polygons
  • Highlight selection - highlights the selected polygon in the image
  • ... - Browse for an external polygon
  • Copy - copies the selected polygon to the clipboard
  • Move - move the selected polygon based on one ot two points on the clipboard.
  • Paste - pastes the clipboard to the selected polygon - will overwrite an existing polygon

Note: Copy is used to transfer polygon to the image for editing and modification. The edited polygon is pasted back to the tool using Paste. More on Point and Click Operations

Vector mouse menu - activate by right mouse clicking in the Vector list

  • New - creates a new vector
  • Delete - deletes the selected vector
  • Paste new - paste clipboard as new polygon
  • Up - moves polygon up in list
  • Down - moved polygon down in list
  • Grid... - activate dialog for defining polygon grid
  • Delete all - removes all polygons from list
  • Delete empty vectors - remove all empty polygons

ROI morphology

  • The ROI polygons can be eroded (made smaller) or dilated (made larger) prior to use.

Autofit - Polygon Model Wizard

Using the Polygon Model Wizard Scorpion helps you create optimal polygons for Blob4.

  • AutoSelect blobs when clicking in image
    • When active Ctrl LMouse will make a blob contour around an object

There are two settings for detecting light and dark blobs - number 1 and 2. The wizard uses the settings taken from the active tab.

Note: If no blob is detected no model is made - remedy adjust the wizard settings

Add polygon tab

The following polygon can be added:

  • Rectangle
  • Circle

Point & Click Support

Two points will define a circle - first point is circle center and the seconds defines the radius. Four points will define a rectangle. Ctrl-Z will paste the clipboard to the tool. Ctrl-A will add the object to the polygon vector list.

Limit visualisation

  • Limit visualised blobs - select to avoid too many blobs being visualised.

Additional results (non-browseable)

  • Additional results - check to make more that 32 results available to scripts

  • Max - set upper limit on additional results (if not checked, there is no limit)

Status

  • Tool fails if nothing is found - if checked, the tool returns status 3 (fail) if no blobs are found. Other tools linked to the Blob4 tool will then not be run.
